Augustine is one of the best theologians that the Church has ever had. He had a tremendous gift for writing and a keen mind. Confessions was written a few years after he was appointed bishop of Hippo in 398 AD. Rhetorically it is a beautiful book, which is not a surprise because Augustine himself was a professor of rhetoric.
