Topics: Vespa, Scooter, NYC
Description: Emil Rensing, chief digital officer of Studio 3 Partners, is never far from the intersection of high performance and technology. Whether its high-speed wheels or Internet connections, Emil lives life in top gear – even when he’s faced with gridlock traffic in midtown Manhattan enroute to his office in Times Square. What is Emil’s pet peeve? Cities like New York that should be embracing scooter riders and their inherent small footprint, but instead virtually discourages them by excluding scooters from transportation plans. Tune into Emil’s blog and help change the status quo.

Fun With Passengers
Gotta love Friday night in Manhattan… …with a Vespa! I'm not sure 'Date Night' will ever be the same!
PINK!
Spotted the elusive Pink Vespa. What do you think?
Gassing Up
Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later! Gassing Up Total gas needed: 2.2 gallons Total price: $6 The best part was that the entire fuel stop took all of 3 minutes. I gotta tell you, dollars for dollar, this thing costa WAY less than cabbing it everywhere, costs less to own on a monthly basis than an unlimited Metrocard — to say nothing of the added flexibility and speed. I’m 100% sold on scooter ownership in NYC at this point.
Vespa Suggestions… 2 Things
I’ve been riding for over a week now and I simply adore this thing. I truly, truly, do. It gives me the freedom I once had with my old BMW F650 GS that I had in NY almost 10 years ago… in a more convenient, easy to manage package. I’ve got 2 product suggestions, though: Soft Touch Turn Signals: Every car I have has this (except the Scuderia) but if you “tap” the turn signal, the signal will flash 3 times. The Vespa needs this. Badly Touch Quality: The throttle feels like it’s plastic. I don’t like that. It needs to feel more substantial and more precise. There’s a lot of play in the thing and the linkage is W
Grip-Lock
I mentioned earlier that I picked up a grip lock. I’m not 100% sure why. I think it was the imminent anticipation of getting the Vespa — I just wanted to buy accessories. I’ve used bike locks before. Mostly kryptonite locks that clamped the front wheel or brake disc. I was always afraid of forgetting that the thing was on the wheel and that I’d ride away with it connected to my bike. The Grip-Lock seems to alleviate that fear.
