How to Use HootSuite to Manage Facebook
I’ve been a big fan of HootSuite for some time now.  For my money, it’s the easiest, most functional Twitter client around (better than TweetDeck, Seesmic, etc).  And it just keeps getting better! HootSuite just today unveiled the functionality to manage Facebook, LinkedIn and Ping.FM all within your HootSuite account.  It’s still a tad buggy; but here’s a video tutorial for how to set up your Facebook account. To make sure you don’t miss subsequent video tutorials about HootSuite and other topics, sign up underneath the video! *
Delete Twitter DM’s in Bulk, with this Neat Efficiency trick
We all hate the spammy auto-DM’s that so many people send.  Not only because – duh, it’s spam! – but also because our Twitter inboxes are then clogged with junk we don’t want, making it very difficult to find DM’s from people we know – the ones we actually do want. I discovered a little efficiency trick for deleting DM’s as quickly as possible.  This video tutorial shows you how!  I also show you how to use your DM’s to clue you in to the people you want to unfollow – so you’re actually accomplishing two things at once.  Can’t get more efficient than that!
How to Create a Redirect Link
This is a super-techy topic; but I’ve had a few requests for it so here we go! Let’s say you have a long ugly affiliate link, or even just a sub-sub-page on your own domain you want to send people to, and you want to be able to give them a short, easy-to-remember URL instead.  In our example we want to send people to www.GreenIslandMarketing.com/DailyMaintenance. Start by creating a folder called Daily Maintenance on your domain.  (case sensitive, BTW) Then copy the following script into a .txt document (using your Notepad application): <?php header(”Location: http://www.yourwebsite.com “); ?><html><head>
Should you have separate personal and professional profiles on Facebook?
Facebook was created as a way for people (specifically college kids) to stay in touch with each other. As it’s grown, marketers have figured out how to leverage it … but more and more people, besides just college kids, are also using it exactly the way it was originally intended. So marketers are left asking the question of whether to separate their business and professional endeavors by creating two separate profiles on Facebook. The simple answer is no, don’t separate the two.  First, from your friends’ perspective: if you’re sending out enough marketing messages that your friends would be annoyed, so would your customers!!  St
The Right Way & The Wrong Way to “Tag” Your Social Media Friends
The Right Way & The Wrong Way to “Tag” Your Social Media FriendsI recently heard someone say that using the @ symbol on Twitter and Facebook is a way of “tagging” your status updates. And that makes me VERY nervous! The purpose of the @ symbol is to engage someone in a one-on-one conversation.  And yes, the fact that an @ is a link gets you traffic and exposure.  But it totally degrades the medium to think of it in those terms. here’s how it works (the right way).  you’ve got keyw
