Are Vegetarians Healthier? More Information
There have been a lot of comments and discussion on a recent blog post about whether being a vegetarian is healthier and will help people live longer lives. The comments have been thoughtful and the discussion interesting. I just ran across an article from 2002 in Time Magazine. If you are interested in the topic, click through to the article linked below and see what you think about vegetarianism after reading it. Then come back here and let us know your thoughts.
Worlds Oldest Woman -- A 125 Year Old Turkish Woman
There are claims floating around out there that a Turkish woman has been found who is 125 years old. Of course, there are no records dating back that far, her claim is based on her own testimony about the year she was born (1884).Claims like these remain unverified. Jeanne Calment remains officially, "The Oldest Person Ever." She died at age 122 and 164 days.
Bingo is Good for Your Brain
Turns out that my grandmother was a trend setter -- bingo is good for your brain. Not only does bingo help you by working on memory and attention skills, but it is also a very social thing to do (social interactions work on other parts of the brain). So move beyond crosswords and find an activity that build brain muscles AND social skills at the same time.More on Brain Fitness

Of course, the anti-vegetarians will say that we (humans) evolved to eat meat, and therefore it is natural and "best" for us to eat meat. This argument has a major fallacy -- evolution only cares about offspring. Once our ancient, meat-eating ancestors reproduced, evolution really didn't care if they lived to 90 (in fact, there i some emerging evidence that our ancestors were mostly gatherers with the occasional meat-fest from a successful hunt, after all, why hunt dangerous animals when you could just pick berries?). So, if longevity is our
Family Versus Professional In Home Care for an Aging Parent
The decision to seek extra care for an aging parent is difficult. One point of debate is whether an aging parent would be better off at home, being taken care of by loved ones or being taken care of by professional healthcare providers. In other words, should in-home care be provided informally, by family members or by a professional? This is a tough call and it depends on many factors, including the level of care needed by the aging parent. One study looked into this question and found (no surprise) that individuals were generally "happier" when receiving care from loved ones at home as opposed to receiving care in professional facilities. The study examined 3,500 households and
