LJF 2009, Day 10: Marcus Miller; Tutu Revisted
They say that all good things must come to an end (Oh, dear God: WHY?!?!?), and thus concludes this years London Jazz Festival 2009. Of course, you’d save the best for last, and it doesn’t get any better than having funk Bass guitar supremo, Marcus Miller, closing the festival with ‘Tutu Revisted‘- a tribute to his collaboration with the Jazz legend that was Miles Davis back in the 1980s on the album, ‘Tutu‘. Of course, it was always going to be a sold out gig at the Barbican. I have been looking
LFJ 2009, Day 9: Mama Africa Celebrations
Pax Vobiscum, Pilgrims.
Well, yesterday was the penultimate night of the London Jazz festival, and yesterday the Africans invaded. It was an evening celebrating the life of African musical legend, Miriam Makeba, who sadly passed away last year. To commemorate her work, a special show was presented & curated by Angelique Kidjo at the Barbican. And what a show! From the word go, you knew this was going to be a celebration. Now, when Africans party, we party!

LJF 2009, Day 7: Bill Frisell with the BBC Symphony Orchestra
Wotcha, Pilgrims
There are certain gigs that you just won’t be able to cover during the performance. The same was also applicable to the Bill Frisell with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican yesterday as part of the London Jazz Festival 2009. LJF 2009, Day 6: Blind Boys of Alabama & Allen Toussaint
Vobiscum Pilgrims
London Jazz Festival 2009 is going strong, and it didn’t get any more uplifting with the performances of the Blind Boys of Alabama and Allen Toussaint at the Barbican. Now, with the Blind Boys, it’s all about appreciation and getting groovy, which is a damn shame that it was kind of lost with the majority of the audience at the Barbican. From the onset, veteran lead singer Jimmy Carter told the audience that “sitting down all conservative ain’t gonna cut it”. Of course, the great British failed to comply. St
LJF 2009 Day 4: Naturally 7 at Royal Festival Hall
Pax, Pilgrims!
So far, the reviews for this year’s London Jazz festival 2009 have sang nothing but praises for all acts, and I’m inclined to agree with most of their comments. Day 4 of the Jazz season took a vocal turn yesterday at the Royal Festival Hall. It was the turn of Acapella-fused beatbox group ‘Naturally 7′ (that’s the best way to describe them) to take the stage. I’d already shot them earlier this year at the Barbican, and to be honest, I think I did a better job then taking their pictures than I did this time arou
