Even the Miracle Bra can’t help me
A lot of blog posts come to me in the shower. This one was literally inspired by  the view looking down in the shower today. It is a sad state of affairs between my neck and my belly button, people. Sad like two deflated balloons the day after a birthday party. Sad like an empty, dusty house that used to be home to a couple rock stars. Sad like the show Trash Can of Skin that I once saw on the Discovery Channel. Sad. The girls were at their peak of disparity by the time I fully weaned Kendall, looking very much like fried eggs and everything like I was afraid they would become. I was happy to see over the summer that they started to get a little mass back in them, a little more f
Will you give up a latte for me?
More specifically, will you give up $5 to help me support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS)? I am 9 days away from the big race, my second marathon. I’ve been training for six months with Team In Training and it’s truly been an inspiring and life changing experience. I’ve met wonderful people along the way, and, sadly, I’ve realized just how many people are affected in one way or another by blood cancers. My great aunt, Aunt Bev, who was the closest thing I had to a grandmother for many years, succumbed to Leukemia 6 years ago. She was always a fighter, always an opti
Back to the Future
A couple weeks ago my friend Barb (one of the founders and owners of Metroplex Baby and Kids) called me with a proposition. She was helping a local news producer find someone to give up the internet, entirely, for a week, and she thought I’d be “perfect” for it.  I had to laugh a little. How bad am I that people think I’d be the perfect case study for what happens when you give up internet for a week? I was a little nervous about it, but figured it might be good for me.  I was feeling stressed and over-extended when she called me with the idea, and thought stepping away from the internet and email for a week mig
I knew this was coming
The Terrorist Terrible Twos are here. Kendall is a full blown toddler who spends his days screaming, whining, screeching, flailing, biting and hitting (the biting and hitting have only been inflicted on me, so far). I’d seen shades of this before we left for DC last week, but it matured and bloomed, transforming my sweet child into a frustrated animal, the moment we arrived at the hotel. I thought, perhaps, his behavior was so… animalistic because he was frustrated with our situation, he was annoyed with being in the hotel, or he was thrown off by the slight time change and disruption to his daily routine. I wondered if maybe I was just feeling his action
Good friends. Good life.
Many of you know that we are close friends with Amy and Srinu Regeti. They own Regeti’s Photography out of Warrenton, VA and photograph people all over the Greater Washington D.C. area. We were so thrilled to hang out with them this week since we haven’t been able to chat much since we moved away from the area 16 months ago. They made us laugh, they gave us sound parenting advice (with 4 of their own, I am amazed they are able to get out of the house every day, not to mention run a successful business), Amy rescued Kendall from me one afternoon when I was on the verge of a breakdown from being stuck in a hotel with a tantruming toddler, and th
