Wright vs. Piper: Why Disunity Needs To Stop
1 Corinthians 1:12-15,17 What I mean is that each one of you says, “I follow Paul,” or “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, so that no one may say that you were baptized in my name…For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. 1 Corinthians 3:4-7 What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. I plan
Christmas: Why Hallmark Might Destroy Meaning
It is about that time of year, where the christmas season is coming and all the kids, or perhaps older people as well, are making their list of wants. I get the dirty looks and smirks every year when I start making comments on the commericalized music that takes over my radio. I had a discussion today with two fellow co-workers and we all agreed that Christmas isn’t what it should be. I find it hard to celebrate the birth of Jesus when we are biting our nails hoping that our children will like their gifts. I am not encouraging exchanging gifts and though you may not agree with me I am going to plead my case for a Christmas where Jesus is the treasure and not Santa.
Thanksgiving Like No Other
This thanksgiving I will be spending it a little different then I am used to and to be honest different then I wanted to. But it is all good I think I will learn much from this thanksgiving, so though different it should be good. I am going to miss out on thanksgiving, or at least the unified family dinner. Instead I am serving it to my folks at work. I am going to accept my leftovers at home for the substitute of making sure those who aren’t going somewhere tomorrow will get their food with a smile. One thing I think has been lacked in my own experience and I think in society is actually expressing thankfulness on this holiday. So I want to take a minute and expr
American House: Thanking God Employment
I have been fortunate it enough to fall into a job, thru a friends good word, and even more importantly the grace of God. This thanksgiving season I am giving thanks for employment, but even more for employment I enjoy. I work with a relatively small crew compared to the huge McDonalds crew I was used to and I am slowly feeling my place and roll here. As I was told by my fellow workers, there is “never a dull moment” here and for this I am thankful. It has been a blessing being able to serve the people, a job in which I longed for and got. Certainly with any job their is certain aspects that you don’t like but this thanksgiving season I couldn’t
Unity Amongst the Churches
In a conversation with a friend of mine the other day I was told that he had made two trips to Kentucky and one to Tennessee in these past couple months to visit one of their brother churches. I am not sure where this brother in Christ stands on all theological grounds but there is something we can learn from this church and from this young man. I personally couldn’t see any benefit from a church with many branches or locations. I saw this as disunity if anything and for that God led me into a conversation with a good friend and showed me how ignorant I truly can be. So I thank God for men who show us grace in speech and conduct in light of Christ. I love this la
