King Says Browns to Hire a “Football Czar” Within a Month
Sporting News.com reported on what Peter King said today about the Browns search for some brains to get into Cleveland and try to turn the Browns around. Here’s the word on what was said: Browns owner Randy Lerner wants to hire a “football czar” to take control of the franchise’s football operations, NBC’s Peter King reported during halftime of the Notre Dame-Navy game today. K
Browns Work Out Veteran WR Robert Ferguson
Scout.com NFL Insider Adam Caplan reports that former Packers and Vikings WR Robert Ferguson worked out for the Browns earlier this week, according to a league source. Ferguson was with the Falcons during the preseason but did not make the final roster. Ferguson has 151 receptions for 1,993 yards and 13 touchdowns in his eight-year NFL career.
During the Bye Week
Despite the distraction created by the firing of GM George Kokinis, the Browns have major work to do during the bye week to prepare themselves for the last eight games of the year. If Mangini is smart, these are the Top 5 things his team should be doing to turn this season around : 1 – Address the Quarterback Situation. This decision is two-fold. First decide who will be under center. Unless there is an overwhelming organizational desire to keep DA at the helm the right choice is to bring back Brady Quinn. Once that choice is made, there needs to be a decision on how to best run the offense so he can be successful. This may sound ludicrous, but
Lerner Gives What Seems Like Support to Mangini
The Plain Dealer today talks about the latest with Randy Lerner getting rid of Eric Mangini: In his first extended interview since the firing of General Manager George Kokinis, Lerner agreed to answer a list of questions via email. Lerner would not comment on the reasons for the Kokinis firing, but he indicated the need for a “strong, credible leader” is a result of Kokinis’ failings as GM. Lerner also said “no” to a question about whether he envisioned changing coaches.
Mangini Says No Decision Has Been Made Regarding QB’s
Eric Mangini is quiet, what else is new, when it comes to who is going to be the next lucky guy to be under center for the Browns when they take the field on Monday November 16th vs the Ravens. Today in Berea, Mangini declined to say who is going to be the QB. (On if he has made a decision at quarterback yet)- “No, not yet. I’m really going to look at that in the context of the last eight games, look at the next eight games and evaluate it up to this point and also looking forward.” (On when he will make a decision at quarterback)- “Probably early next week.” Now the big question is – will he tell the rest of us?
