Calman Commission
The British government has accepted the recommendations of the Calman Commission to give the Scottish government more powers, including control of taxation.
The Scottish Parliament was created following a referendum in 1997 in which the Scottish people were asked:
1. I agree that there should be a Scottish Parliament
2. I agree that a Scottish Parliament should have tax-varying powers
Almost three quarters of Scots voted in favour of a Scottish Parliament and 63.5 per cent
CEP Protest and Conference Today
The CEP’s Conference and Parliament Square protest are taking place in London today.
The protest will take place in Parliament Square between 2pm and 3pm and the conference is taking place between 5pm and 7pm.
The conference is fully subscribed so please do not turn up unless you have applied for and been sent a ticket.
All are welcome to attend the 2pm protest but please remember that this is a Campaign for an English Parliament event. Carrying placards for political parties is not appropriate and is likely to be considered an unauthorised protest b
English railways stations latest pawn in Labour’s election strategy
The British English Transport Minister and one of the Scottish Prime Minister’s many unelected cabinet cronies, Lord Adonis, has announced that 10 English railway stations will receive a share of £50m set aside to improve the most run-down stations in the country.
No Scottish stations will receive funding as it is a devolved matter and they have benefited from decades of generous funding courtesy of the English taxpayer-funded Barnett Bribe.
The list of stations makes interesting reading when you correlate it with the political make-up of the local authority involved:
