Welcome to MJ’s Beach House! Your Summer Agenda.

For those of you who get your site news on Twitter, this isn’t anything new, but for those who don’t, a few announcements: 1. The Lady of the Manor is going to take a well-deserved break from this place for the offseason. I’m sure all of you can appreciate that, considering the phenomenal job she [.

2011-2012: A Yearbook

I’ve been starting at this screen for about fifteen minutes now, title done, nothing else written. There’s a whole lot of “if only” thoughts running through my head. There’s a whole lot of frustration that wants to overcome the rush of two great months that ended much too quickly. I know I can’t let

Checking in on Big Game Cory

Alex referenced the 2008 Calder Cup Playoffs in her earlier post and it got me thinking about Cory Scheider. Schneider, now 26, was the backstop for Manitoba that season and has since made a name for himself as the preferred goaltender of Vancouver Canucks fans (and now coaches). That’s saying somet

History repeats itself

I was chatting with MJ about the shit-show of  a game that’s currently gasping its final breaths in St. John’s. I mentioned that I seemed to remember getting spanked by the Moose once during that round one series in ’08, and that certainly all is not lost because we know how that series turned out.

It’s playoff time in Syracuse!

You know what we get to do today, Brooks? We get to play baseball. This quote was taken from Disney’s interpretation of the story of Jimmy Morris, the baseball hopeful turned science teacher turned baseball star. The movie is called The Rookie and Morris is played by the rather delicious Dennis Quai

WE DID IT!

Obviously this is a little behind, but a two and a half hour drive–even with my fabulous friend Chuk Styles making awesome time–and an ancient phone will do that to you. I’ll be posting more in the next few days, but I just wanted to say: WE DID IT! Our first round schedule: Eastern Conference [...]

Emerson Etem on his way?

From what I’m hearing on Twitter, Ducks’ prospect Emerson Etem is on his way to Syracuse just in time for our final playoff push and the start of the playoffs. Etem went 61-46 in the WHL this year during the regular season. He also went 7-6 in the playoffs for Medicine Hat. There’s some confusion [.

We can do this!

With the release of the newest AHL Playoff Primer this morning, the picture for the Crunch comes into much better focus. We knew it would, of course, given that this is the final weekend of play, but it’s still reassuring to see it in black and white. The good news is that this team still [...]

Magic number

As it stands right now, the Syracuse Crunch need to win 5 of their last 6 games to be in the playoffs no matter what happens. There’s our fate, boys and girls. No scoreboard watching, no finger crossing. If we can basically win out the end of the season, it won’t matter what anyone else [...]

What a marvelous March it was…

It’s no joke, boys and girls. March was momentous for the Syracuse Crunch. The team started the month almost as far out of the playoffs as a team can be, but by the end they had clawed their way into contention. They’ve been oscillating between 7th and 8th place ever since, never falling out (despit
