the first step is admitting i have a problem
When I think about my childhood, I undoubtedly had a great one: my sister and I lived a comfortable life with our parents, we were afforded great educations, we were loved. And yet, there is one nagging regret, one aspect of my youth about which I'm very bitter:
We never had LEGO.

Yesterday, we took Marcus' family to the Texas Renaissance Festival. I am always somewhat ambivalent about going to the Texas Renaissance Festival, specifically when it comes to taking Marcus' family there. "Are you sure?" I always ask. "I mean, wouldn't it be at least mildly distasteful to your family to go to a place with a bunch of Texans speaking in bad English accents?" Marcus always disagrees.

As it happens, yesterday was not only Thanksgiving, but it was also my mother-in-law Diana's birthday. So naturally, instead of making something traditional for dessert like pecan, or pumpkin, or apple pie, I made chocolate chocolate chip birthday cake.
With candles. And sprinkles. Lots and lots of sprinkles.
