Dallas police commander makes finalist for chief job in Florida
Dallas police's Northeast Patrol commander, Deputy Chief Tom Lawrence, is among four finalists for a job as police chief of Clearwater, Fla.
The current chief there will retire in late February after 29 years in the position, according to a city news release.

Dallas police seek to reduce holiday crime at major retail outlets
Dallas police are kicking in to high gear to try to stop crime in and around large retail outlets.
During the holiday season, mall parking lots are flush with holiday shoppers -- and car burglars.
To that end, police announced Wednesday that they have created a special Holiday Mall Task Force of officers from several patrol substations to fight crime at the city's larger retail outlets. The effort is not an unusual as police have done the same thing in years past.

Man gets 12 years for stealing $1.4 million from Baylor hospital
A man accused of stealing $1.4 million from Baylor Health Care System pleaded guilty was sentenced to 12 years in prison Tuesday, court records show.
Gary James Stephens, who worked in Baylor's information technology department, began submitting "bogus" invoices in July 2006 from a fake company, court records show. The hospital then paid "I-Tech Solutions" for services never rendered and products never purchased.
His mother, Cheryl Rankin, is also accused in the theft. Her case is scheduled for trial in December.
