Happy Weekend!
It’s Friday and time for me to wish you well and thank you for joining me this week on decor8. It’s nearly 2:30 p.m. here and I try to sign off midday on Fridays each week in a quest to become more balanced — plus the weather is gorgeous and will be this way until Monday so I hope to get a lot done including another trip out to IKEA, a visit to the flea market, and my friend is having a shopping event on her street with other indie sellers so I plan to visit that too. AND I need to get my hair cut, it’s a giant monster and my morning bed head is so extreme that if I glued google eyes on it you’d think it were alive!
FRYD + Design
Before I wrap up for the week, I simply must share a very lovely blogger and peeks of her home in Norway! I first heard about FRYD + Design this morning when BoligLiv sent an email showing some of the new content that they just posted on their site. Immediately my eyes were drawn to Jeanette Lunde of FRYD + Design, a graphic designer and blogger in Norway and thankfully for most of us, who writes her blog in English.
Sacred Lotus Photography
Have you heard of photographer and blogger Nicolle Null of Sacred Lotus Photography in Portland, Oregon? She lives and works there with her husband Chris and their little boy and is working hard to become a full-time photographer supporting herself through her work. It’s a tough market and a competitive field, but I have great faith in Nicolle and that she’ll be able to sail along just fine because well… just look at soft and graceful work, how can she not succeed? Especially with all of us supporting her!
Simplemente Blanco: New Studio!
Would you like to take a little studio tour with me for a moment? You will enjoy it, I promise. This is the new studio space of a talented friend in Boston, Fernanda Bourlet, a native of Buenos Aires with a sensibility for all things modern, natural, neutral and of course with a nod to her culture and relaxed lifestyle in Argentina. She recently moved from her former studio to this one in the South End on Thayer Street and after spending a month non-stop renovating the space. She painted the floors, had to completely rewire the place with electricity, install new HVAC ducts, you name it – this space was born out of love and a lot of hard work! Not to mention what you see IN the spa
Talk It Out
Ready for this week’s talk it out topic? I’ve been reading a lot lately about designers who are online and how they often compare their work to others and feel overwhelmed by all that they see. I guess this is called inspiration overload. Comparing your work to others can go from a natural curiosity to a full blown obsession causing stress, emotional and health problems, not to mention a bad mood and lack of motivation to do your own good work. I occasionally feel overwhelmed by all that I see online, but it doesn’t impact me or my mood because I have learned how to just unplug and find better things to focus on that doesn’t make me feel less than worthy.
