Why Draconian DRM sucks and Adobe sucks even more
I’ll admit to coveting an Android phone today. Not because it is a better device than my iPhone (it isn’t) and not because I want to be on the Verizon network. I was interested in the Droid phone because I am getting extremely frustrated with protectionist DRM systems and the policies Apple is using to keep applications like Google Voice out of the App Store.
Over the past weeks I’ve had a very frustrating experience with Adobe and DRM locks they have put on my system that even Adobe can’t seem to remove. It all started when I decided to upgrade my operating system to Snow Leopard and here’s the time line of how it all went down.

Mobile devices in America are generating something like 600 billion geo-spatially tagged transactions per day. Every call, text message, email and data transfer handled by your mobile device creates a transaction with your space-time coordinate (to roughly 60 meters accuracy if there are three cell towers in range), whether you have GPS or not. Got a Blackberry? Every few minutes, it sends a heartbeat, creating a transaction whether you are using the phone or not. If the device is GPS-enabled and you’re using a location-based service your location is accurate to somewhere between 10 and 30 meters. Using Wi-Fi?
