When one voice isn’t enough
For the past four years, Maggie Dennis Wurm (Class of ‘88) and her family have been living with her daughter’s medical condition. Madasyn Wurm has Rett Syndrome, a developmental disorder that impairs brain function, and affects learning, mood, movement, speech, sensation, and even basic functions like breathing, chewing, swallowing, and digestion. Rett Syndrome is caused by a chromosomal mutation, and strikes children of all racial and ethnic groups, but it most often affects girls. Maggie has been a vocal crusader in several events organized to spread awareness of the disorder, and raise money to find a cure. H

Who is John Q? And why you should know.
David Turner, Class of ‘88, is in a band. No, not a garage band that only gets together on the weekends to jam. And not a band that only plays your cousin’s wedding or the occasional bar mitzvah. A band that is about to release its second CD. The band is called John Q, and they’re headed to Chicago to compete in a national battle of the bands competition.
