Dic Youngs, the iconic voice of early rock ‘n roll music in Des Moines and central Iowa, passed away early Thursday morning, October 2, 2009. Homeless ‘tent city’ – what do you think?
A group called Hope Builders has asked the City of Des Moines to consider allowing the development of a designated homeless camp at an as-yet-undetermined location in the city.  According to the Des Moines Register, “The proposed camp would have centralized showers, cooking facilities, and a place for the homeless to connect with outreach programs and services to get people back on their feet…” Apparently it’s an idea that’s been tried in other cities – I’m not sure to what degree of success.
