Miami Dolphins: Chad Henne progress report (Poll)
Writing a column for Sunday's newspaper about Chad Henne and, while there will be some stuff from his press conference Wednesday, I'll also use some statistics that should surprise you.
With that said, here's a poll.
After 7 games, and a 5-2 record, what is your opinion of Chad Henne?(opinion)
Miami Dolphins: With Roth gone, only six left from three drafts
Today's waiving of Matt Roth, which would have seemed like a ridiculous notion about six months ago, should not come as so much of a surprise now.
Something just wasn't right this year, and my guess is that we'll get a better picture of what happened now that he's moving on.
Roth was one of just three players remaining from Nick Saban's 2005 draft.
Now there are only two: Ronnie Brown and Channing Crowder.
Saban's 2006 draft? Jason Allen, who is strictly a special-teamer, is the only guy left.
The 2007 draft, led by Randy Mueller and Cam Cameron? The Dolphins have a punter (Brandon Fields), nose tackle (Paul Soliai) and a returner/"receiver" (Ted
Miami Dolphins: NBC passes on Dolphins for Favre
If the Dolphins beat the Bills this Sunday, and the Patriots lose to the Saints on Monday -- both distinct possibilities -- then the Dolphins will be playing the Patriots for first place on Dec. 6. Even so, NBC decided to go another direction. The network used its "flex schedule" rights to take the Vikings-Cardinals matchup instead, moving the Dolphins game from 8:20 back to 1 p.m. That's the allure of Brett Favre. The Cardinals have also been playing well, and it looks like Kurt Warner will be available. This makes our lives easier in the sports department (we hate those tight night deadlines). How do you feel about this? Disappointed? Or w
Miami Dolphins: Passing the depth test
During training camp, I posted a poll on this blog, asking readers to identify the most irreplaceable Dolphin.
The five top finishers in that poll?
Chad Pennington.
Jake Long.
Jason Ferguson.
Will Allen.
Ronnie Brown.
What does that mean?
First, that Jake better be careful. He's the only guy left.
Second, the 5-5 record, in spite of the injuries, speaks to the way the new regime has been rebuilding this program.
The work isn't done yet, especially in terms of offensive playmakers. But you should be able to see something developing here. It's the New England model, in which the extra guys on the roste
Miami Dolphins: Can they go 5-1?
That's what it will take to make the playoffs. And that might not be enough if the loss to the wrong (Steelers or Texans or Jaguars) team. Assume that the Patriots, Colts, Chargers and Bengals win their divisions. Assume that the Texans beat the Titans tonight*, though that is certainly no given. That would leave the wild card chase as follows:Jaguars 6-4 (5-2 in AFC) Broncos 6-4 (5-3 in AFC)*Texans 6-4 (5-3 in AFC)Steelers 6-4 (4-3 in AFC)Ravens 5-5 (5-4 in AFC)Dolphins 5-5 (3-3 in AFC) The Steelers' loss kept every team within striking distance. And the Dolphins still have games left against
