Injured in car accident? Weight loss will fix you right up.
Danielle writes:
Hi my name is Danielle and I wanted to submit a story. This blog has helped me to be a lot more aware of how anti-fat bias can impede interactions with health care professionals.
Three weeks ago my mother was in a car accident and suffered injuries to her feet and knees. One leg has swelled significantly and made it difficult for her to walk. She started going to a physical therapist for her injuries. This therapist told her that the best thing she could do to heal would be to lose weight, and he is requiring her to submit food logs to him so he can monitor her diet. I wonder how all of his thin patients recuperate from accidents
Snoring? Must be because you’re a big, fat fatty
Carrie writes:
My boyfriend and I are both happy fatties.
For years, I’ve been dealing with his snoring, which has complicated a sleep and chronic pain disorder that I have, but he was tentative about going to a specialist because he was certain the doctor would say, “Hey, dude, lose some weight and everything will be peachy keen.” Despite this fear, I finally convinced him to seek a solution for his snoring.
He had a sleep study, which came back relatively normal, and his primary care physician suggeted that he see an ear, nose & throat specialist to see if s/he might be able to further diagnose him and provide tre
Years of abuse from doctors delay MS diagnosis

I think if I began to tell all of the stories I had about being discriminated against as a child, and now adult – I could write a small novella. I never talk about it, I dont often write about it, I just block it out. As a child, I had a doctor who I still hold a special place of mild contempt for. I still clearly remember her telling my mother that if I did not lose weight, my tonsils would explode, My mother (out of fear and embarrassment I think) would often agree with the doctors who were making me feel like trash. I realized at an early age that doctors didnt help all the time.
When I was about 13 years old, I
A reader needs some help
Christine writes:
Hi there,
I’m a regular Fatosphere reader (I’ve commented on all of your blogs and/or corresponded by email before) and a budding FA activist. I’m about to do something new and scary in that realm, and I need all the help I can get.
I intend to meet with the Clinical Director of the family practice clinic at which I am a patient, to discuss the poor medical treatment I recently received. In this meeting, I am going to educate this director on how fat patients are being treated in her clinic, suggest changes to clinic policy as well as file a complaint against my personal physician.
What I need is

Hi,
It was interesting–and somewhat sad–to find your site. I also have a medical discrimination story. I am currently 33 years old, 255 lbs, and 5′9″. I exercise, eat fairly well, and have good blood pressure/cholesterol/blood sugar. Anyway, now that my vitals are out of the way, my ob/gyn diagnosed me as having PCOS after my TRAINER at my gym suggested I may have it. The gyn said that I really need to eat a low glycemic diet. (Of course, as is often the case, when this kind of advice is given out, that’s about the extent of the information). The doctor prescribed me Metformin. Fast forward to a few
