Banda Tre - Banda Tre EP
I’m still trying to get a grip on this self-titled manic album by Banda Tre. dance music, party music, out-of control techno dub, but mainly just totally fun reggae and world beat. It is a bit cartoonish but the fast-based beats are certainly contagious. I think kids would like this music but I have no idea if the lyrics are suitable as they are in a language I do not understand, They are certainly fun to hear. “Reggae-Brazil” has the heaviest rock beats and is my personal favorite. “Stare Kwasy” is the most traditional reggae track and still somewhat outrageous. Also worth a listen is “Now
Bloch - Violin Concerto
Ernest Bloch is a Swiss born American composer most noted from his use of Jewish traditional and liturgical music in his compositions. His music is derived from Late Romantic and Impressionistic influences yet his liberal use of Jewish themes and motifs makes him stand out in 20th century music. The Violin Concerto was written for Joseph Szigeti and is performed by Szigeti on this 1939 recording with the Orchestre de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire of Paris. The conductor is Charles Munch
Indo - five albums
Indo’s Creative Commons Licensed albums are a series of global ambient experiments utilizing multiple musical cultures. Each album appears to be focused on a certain world music. However the Hungarian artist uses his own electronic and sampling tricks to give them an unique and individual sound. I prefer these albums as essentially background music for reading or working but they would also work well for meditative listening. Tangata Manu has an album cover of the Easter Island statues. I do not know if the sound sare of Easter Island music specifically but there is definitely a Pacific Island beat going o
Zoo - Trilogi Peradaban
The Indonesian cornucopia of music on netlabel Yes No Wave gets especially weird with this online album by a group of anarchic rockers called Zoo. The 25 minute EP titled Trilogi Peradaban, actually a trilogy of three shorter EP that come together in a download zip, is an unrelenting barrage of screaming and frenzied musicianship . I’m not sure of their point most the time but the brevity of most tracks makes this music not only tolerable but interesting. The two longer tracks, “Kelana” and “Eskalator” gives the band a chance to stretch out a little. I
Gardner Chamber Orchestra - Live at the Gardner Museum’s Tapestry Room
There are lots of top class musicians showcased on the music page of the Isabel Stewart Gardner Museum web site. However their own chamber orchestra shouldn’t be missed either. Three compositions are available at the Free Music Archive under the heading Live at The Gardner Museum’s Tapestry Room. The two Mozart works and a serenade from Anton Dvorak make up the gentle Classical program for a Sunday afternoon of your choosing. It is as relaxing as a outdoor picnic but without the ants and the dr
