Hey Thanks!
I have so much to be thankful for. My family, my job, my health, just to name a few. My husband is amazing, kind and funny, smart and sexy. The boys, they are healthy, clever and a great source of amusement. My family is supportive and loving and they take great joy in spending time with us. And have I mentioned they babysit? How does one woman get to be so lucky? Honestly, I have no idea. I guess I could write about the millions of ways my family is there for me, the ways the kids are wonderful and the ways my husband lights up my life (to borrow a phrase from Debby Boone). I could, but maybe I'll write about some of the smaller things for which I am thankful.I am thankful
The younger generation
Tonight as I was cooking dinner I rummaged through the cheese box and found a package of cream cheese. Since I was making a salmon and leek risotto, I thought I might just throw it in to use it up. Unfortunately when I opened it, it had fur. It may have had teeth as well. "Ewwwww!" and without looking long enough to learn the cheese's name, I just followed my impulse to toss it in the trash.Immediately Mr. Dog sprung forward. "Hey! You could have put that in the compost!" Little Dog was right behind him, "I wanna see!""Well, it's in the trash. You can't see it. Trust me, it was creepy."Mr. Dog decided to dig it out of the trash and put it in th
Things that go, well, just go, in the night
Last night Mr. Dog and I both had a hard time falling asleep. We'd had long days and for whatever reason we both were still laying awake in bed just after midnight when we heard a lot of activity coming from the boys' room. I assumed that Big Dog was getting out of bed and soon we'd have a nighttime visitor climbing into bed between us. Imagine my surprise when I heard his bare feet pad down the hall, into our bedroom, into the kitchen, back to the hallway and back into our room. He paused a moment and Mr. Dog asked, "Hey, what are you doing?""I have to go," he replied and left our room. Ok, he needed to use the bathroom. No big deal. Then a few minutes la

I'm beginning to understand the mommy-track. Why women in compellig careers leave the workforce when they have kids. I'm starting to get it. Not that I'd choose it, but sometimes it feels like life is set up to work against us working moms. The daily activities of work and home come at you like water from a firehose at times, pushing you along with little will of your own. My schedule has become so packed, I almost feel the need to schedule a bathroom break for fear it will be booked over and I'll be forced to resort to adult diapers. Ok, that's probably an exaggeration, but not by much. The hardest part of my day, by far, is the morning rout
Questions from the back seat
Our daily commute has been pretty gracefully added to my already hectic routine. After a few rough starts, we're getting pretty good at making it out of the house on time, fed, clothed and ready to go. Well, maybe not ready to go, but going none the less. I have only once forgotten my laptop, not yet forgotten lunches and have managed to gracefully forget show and tell more than once, just not letting on until they were dropped off. Phew.In this short daily drive to and fro the boys and I have some interesting talks. Just this week, Big Dog, out of the blue asked about Mao."Mama, what happened to our other dog?""What other dog," I asked, momentarily confused.
