Winter is coming
Winter may never arrive in the Game of Thrones epic, but it’s certainly on the way to Mount Cook. We’ve had good early snowfalls, establishing a great base in the high mountains. Temperatures are dropping rapidly as well, so the formula is on track for an excellent winter season. Ski The Tasman and

MEC 7
Another great week in the hills up at the Annette Plateau. Went up and camped/bivi under Mt Annette on the latest MEC course. We spent a couple of day up in the snow learning snowcraft skills and climbing peaks in the area before heading back to the village when the weather turned for the worse. [..

After a few days of good weather out of the hills. Managed to summit Green, Walter, Alymer and H Dome. The winds picked up today so we decide to fly out and see what we can do from the village tomorrow. Jane was along on the trip and well and great having 2 guides, [...]

Ice cliff on Mt Tasman
Guide Jamie Robertson got back to base last night after an attempt on Mount Tasman (3497 metres), NZ’s second highest peak. He and his guest Don decided to turn back while on the summit of Lendenfeld (3194 metres – NZ’s 5th highest) due to the combination of snow conditions, and the state of the rou

Feedback from Ama Dablam
Here’s a nice testimonial we just received from Chris Bailey who did a TMC with guide Bill Atkinson over the new year period of last year (2010/11). Cheers for the feedback Chris! Hi Bill, Not sure if you remember me, but I did the TMC course with you overNew Years this year. I don’t think I did an

Mt Aspiring
Back from a trip on Aspiring. The weather did not play the perfect game and we ended up extending a day as we could not fly out when we wanted too but on the bright side we managed to summit. Great views on the way up but the weather did turn again for the descent [...]

MEC2
Just back from 4 days at Mueller Hut. The weather was a little windy but we did manage to get out for some snow skills and climbing between the storms. We still had some great views when between the snow and rain. Now back in the village and finishing off learning the last of [...]

Private instruction trip
Just back from the Tasman Glacier after spending a few day at Kelman Hut. Great conditions for getting around though tough to find cravasses for rescue training (to much snow covering them all). We did manage to summit Mt Alymer on a very cold and windy day (Down jackets on the summit). It did [.

Alpine Guides News – Spring edition
And it does feel like spring in the mountains. Days are warmer and daylight saving has just started here in NZ. Coming out of winter we’re looking forward to the summer guiding season. Bookings are coming in steadily, and some periods are already full, or almost filled. If you are thinking about cli
