Revisiting a Morning
I’m always up long before dawn. Couldn’t sleep past sunrise if I wanted. One of my favorite things to do in these quiet solitary hours is go through some of my older work, paging through the years to times of inspiration and bliss. It’s a great way to start the day. I always wonder about people seeking a “cure” for insomnia. Why would anyone want to be cured of getting a little extra living done each day?
The Deliberate Life
Nothing taken for granted. Venture to a frontier and make a life. Build your own house. Deal with the hardship. Reap the rewards. Know that you had truly lived. What few will ever know is that giving up the hardest of the hardships also means losing the most sublime of the rewards.
Act II
I spent some time in this spot with Floris Van Breugel. When we arrived we were immediately taken with the interesting patterns in the sand, a result of recent rain. I made a few images, the first of which I posted earlier on NPN was made in dry sand. I later found these fascinating patterns in the mud. Soon after, it started groppling and my next images are dotted with white flakes.
The Thinking Place
I visited this little alcove many times. It is located at the edge of a large bench and offers vast views of the canyon country. It is a place for contemplation and thinking; a place to lie awake in the small hours of the night to see the Milky Way, and greet the dawn in silence.
“Every man needs a place where he can go to go crazy in peace.”
