Tomorrow we go to the polls. Unless you live in Seattle, like I do, where polling booths don't exist anymore. In which case tomorrow we go to the mailbox. The big blue one. In time for a proper postmark. Doesn't exactly give the same sense of community walking to my local polling place used to. But at least, unlike in some countries, we get to vote.

A single, footloose-and-fancy-free friend, who seems to have an inordinate amount of time on his hands, forwarded me this NY Times article called "The Referendum" by Tim Kreider. It is excellent. It talks about the difference between single folks and married-with-kids folks, and how they envy/disdain/judge/misperceive each other.

We're checking the kids with the grands and heading down to the Bay Area for a little work, a lot of play this weekend. Book Passage, one of the west coast's best book stores, will host me on Saturday to talk about my book, The Motion of the Ocean: 1 Small Boat, 2 Average Lovers, & a Woman's Search for the Meaning of Wife. Hoping to do a bit of book browsing there myself--I love that place.
