Deadspin for Mets Fans, Hot Foot embodies the Rock and Roll attitude of the hard living 1986 Mets. The Hot Foot was invented by the great Mets relief pitcher Roger McDowell who lit unsuspecting teammate's shoes on fire with a device he called a Hot Foot. |

My Very Worst Nightmare Has Come True
It was Friday night when I went to see a formerly little known movie that started to ride a bit of a hype machine to box office significance. It was Paranormal Activity, and it was good. The scares were not cheap in the least, and it features a final act that will give you the chills. And it’s true: I couldn’t sleep that night. Did it have anything to do with this supernatural thriller, though? ‘Course not.
It was the likely match-up of the Phillies and Yankees in the World Series that kept me tossing and turning.
The Phillies had days earlier clinched their spot in the Fall Classic, sending Torre and company to the golf course, but the
That Voodoo I Didn’t Do
The date? April 13th, 2009.
Its significance? First regular season game ever played at Citi Field.
I was lucky enough to attend the game. Despite the loss it will always be cool to say I was at the first ever regular season game there. That said, I’ve had serious doubts about the attire I wore to the game.
In case you don’t remember, I own a pair of Mets tube socks. Now, these aren’t any old, ratty tube socks. These are lucky tube socks. No time in recent memory have the Mets lost on a day when I wore the socks. In 2008 when I wore them, they were 3-0, all of which were relatively important wins.
Why don’t I wear the socks
Go for Aroldis
I’m afraid, Kaz Matsui has cursed the Mets.
In December of 2003, when the Mets signed Kaz Matsui to a three year, $20 million deal, it appeared to be beacon of light for the Mets in that they were opening themselves up to the world and taking advantage of the international free agent market the way any smart team should. Whether it was because of jitters, poor scouting, or whatever, the Matsui to the Mets experiment failed and since then the Mets have been unwilling to seriously commit themselves to international free agents at the Major League level.
Since the Matsui signing was such a failure, it seems as if the Mets organization as a
Don’t Move Home!
There has been chatter lately sparked by a piece in the NY Times by Joe Ward about whether or not the Mets should do anything to correct the home run starved atmosphere at Citi Field. As Ward explains in the piece, the logical solution is not moving the outfield walls in, rather moving home plate outwards. The former solution is much more expensive because it requires tearing down the wall, moving seats, etc. while moving home forward is rather simple.
No thank you to all of the above.
A newsflash to those who don’t know: the Mets had a record of 41-40 this year! In typical circumstan
Did Tigers Choke Worse Than ‘07 Mets?
As former Met Carlos Gomez slid face first into home plate to send the Minnesota Twins past the Detroit Tigers into the playoffs and into the lions den that is Yankee Stadium, one thought came into my mind: was the Tigers’ collapse worse than the 2007 New York Mets?
We all know by now that the Mets blew a seven game lead with 17 games left to play, and eventually missed the playoffs. But is what the Tigers managed to pull off more shocking and painful?
Tuesday, the Tigers became the only team in MLB history to be atop their division since May 10, only to lose it in the final week of the season. Their lead was as big as seven (sounds familiar) with 26 games left to
