There is little evidence that says rational people are predisposed to starting new businesses.  However, those that are irrational, lazy thinkers who start businesses are often weeded out by the cruel and certain judgment of the marketplace. The marketplace provides an unwavering feedback loop - good decisions are rewarded, poor decisions are punished.  For example, loaning money to a not-so-dependable brother-in-law might cost an entrepreneur a few dollars and some grief personally, but imprudently extending trade credit to customers could be a death knell to their business.
