China is Missing a Million People
Here is a prime example of how a single man or even group of men cannot create a functioning society consisting of people outside of themselves. This video shows that cities can't just be created. They are the sum of their individual parts, all the people and ideas who make them up today and in the past. This city is merely someone's idea....empty, hollow with no life. Cheers, China!
Why do we have a homebuyers tax credit? Didn't we just learn about those effects?
Yes, government, please continue to subsidize homeownership. We benefited greatly from these policies during the late 90's and 2000's. Now that I have an income I would like to also partake in this market, given that the cost of homeownership is so low and the returns are so much higher than any other investment.Oh wait, they were? Now returns are back to normal asset levels? Well, its still a highly subsidized asset purchase. Everyone should go out and buy a house or 2. Unemployed? Don't worry there's always the mortgage modification program. So come on people, lets go out and buy houses.

see here for graphNotice that less that 30% of people are married in DC with the median age of first marriage at 32 for men and 30 for women. this is the lowest percentage and highest median age across the country. The district is such an anomaly, likely due to the transient nature of the city.It would be interesting to see how these numbers change when the gay population can marry.
