A Touchy Topic
Warning: this topic may not be suitable for work. First Corinthians, Chapter Six, Verse Twenty: “Therefore honor God with your body.” (Omitted, the first part: “You were bought for a price…”) First Corinthians, Chapter Six, Verse Eighteen: “He who sins sexually sins against his own body.” (Omitted, the first part: “Flee from sexual immorality.  All other sins a man commits are outside of his body, but…” Why the quotes from the Bible? Well, my seven-year-old has these two verses for his memory work this week.  Last week, his memory work was of the Seventh Commandment:
The Politician
People-please-er.  Suck Up.  Non-confrontational.  Easy.  Doormat. So many words for the same thing.  Being a liberal bleeding heart often lends me to acting in ways contrary to my heart.  I’ve swung the pendulum on such things. While a teenager, I was very much ready to stomp out anything or anyone who would dare challenge what I believed was truth.  To call me outspoken was the understatement of the millennium.  However, as I grew into a professional working woman, I discovered that what I believe as right does not always need to be shared.  I do not have to dominate a topic or conversation in order to be heard.  This revised way of thinking led to more bi
Book Review! Odd Thomas
Dean Koontz is my go-to guy when it comes to easy, suspenseful reading.  Ever since I discovered my love for thriller novels, he has been my favorite writer.   And par for the course, Dean Koontz’s ‘Odd Thomas’ doesn’t disappoint!   Meet Odd.  He’s a charming young man with a gift from God: he can see, speak, and commune with dead people (including Elvis) AND he can see demons who flock to people who will have viol
Don’t Bite the Hand, Princess.
I’m not entirely certain why I allow myself to feel this way when I speak with you. Not even sure that I could explain precisely how I feel. I am constantly overly-friendly to you.   I am sweet and always helpful.  I don’t ask you to do much for me– even though it is your job to help me in some–many– situations. You jump down my throat.  You speak to me condescendingly.  And do I bite back?  Nope.  I cower. I hate you for the way I feel when you’re around. You are a cruel, calloused bitch who thinks that everyone must be stupid. *sarcastically*   You’re right.  We̵
I AM a Writer
You can have and be anything you desire.   This is a law of the universe.  Yet… there is more to positive psychology.  It’s not just picking through the catalog of the cosmos.  It’s acting like the universe is already YOURS. Instead of saying, “I want to be…,” it will now be, “I am.” What it comes down to… is that I already am a writer.  I write, often compulsively, as frequently as I am able.  Almost as frequently as I wish.   For some reason, I had believed that in order to be a writer, I would need be paid for writing.  The fact is that very few writers are actually paid fo
