Description: “Photography is a way of seeing and understanding my place in this world. It’s a versatile medium and the cameras ability to seize the moment, keeps me shooting. Every commission is a new experience, challenging me technically and creatively. My work focuses on the things I am passionate about; people, health and cultural traditions.” Kara Renee Burns started her career in 2001 when she graduated from the Scientific and Industrial Photography Program at RMIT in Melbourne. Since that time she has become one of Darwin’s premier editorial and commercial photographers. In 2007 she became a preferred photographer with the Australian Consolidated Press (ACP) and completed a series of portraits for the Australian Woman’s Weekly. Kara’s client list includes the Australian Federal Government, the US Government, Belgian engineering agency Umicore and local Darwin based builders The Halikos Group and PTM Homes. In 2008 Kara Burns was commissioned by the University of Western Australia to complete a series of portraits of Indigenous Nurses of the Pilbara. “I love the power of portraiture and documentary to challenge and engage peoples emotions. Darwin has honed my sense for using available light, which is the supreme ingredient in portraiture and documentary photography.” Kara Burns currently works as a full-time photographer for the Northern Territory Government and operates her photography business in Darwin in the Northern Territory, Australia.
