| Description: | Sometime at the end of the 60's, Sonny Bono, sang a song called "Laugh at me". I think he wrote it when members of the establishment laughed at him for wearing his hippie attire while going into an upscale restaurant. While doing my research and observations for my study on generations, I see that this song could just as easy be about Now (the turn of the 21st century) as well as then (the 50's). Instead of my parents don't understand me, I am seeing a generation that just doesn't understand their parents. "Mom, how could you walk into that restaurant with tennis shoes on". "How gross Mom, how can you kiss Dad in front of everyone". "How could a mother go to work and leave her children at childcare?" "Why did Dad have no part in bringing me up?" "It is that stupid hippie generation that made me have the problems I have". Well, let me tell you something. If it weren't for the stupid 60's. all of us would still be saying "Yes Maam" and "Yes Sir", even when we don't agree. Of course, now we are doing ALL but saying yes, Maam and Yes Sir to our children. It is so funny how generations skip. I am seeing this generation as righteous as my parents generation but towards their parents, not their children and sometimes even more unforgiving. We may have made mistakes, but I think we have also set the tone for you to be able to rule the world. "Laugh at me and I'll cry for you and I'll die for you and I'll do anything that the man upstairs says to do, I'll do if for you" Sonny Bono. Don't laugh at us, we don't laugh at you. We respect the strength that you have achieved in this generation, but please don't laugh at us or criticize us because we aren't like you--let us do our own thing. I know, I know, "DUDE, you're so 60"s". You know what, to me, DUDE, that's a good thing!!!! |
