Description: By now, you have likely been at a cocktail party or a barbque and had some kind of discussion about global warming, the price of energy or the war on terrorism. These kinds of discussions raise many questions and often leave one not only without answers but also overwhelmed and wanting to just go to sleep. If you are here visiting this site, I suspect you have already gotten to the point where you feel some sense of personal responsibility for these issues. If you have children in your life, your feeling of personal responsibility is probably even greater. I have been passionate about the outdoors since I was young. In the past I have worked leading wilderness trips, high ropes courses and more recently taught kayaking on the Chicago lakefront. One of the things that I have noticed as of late are changes in the environment. With the population of the planet increasing by over 2 billion people in the last 20 years it is easy to understand why these changes are taking place. When I really think about what is happening to the planet between climate change and population growth, I just want to go to sleep. It is really difficult to face, but by the same token it just simply is not ok for me to sit by. I don’t think I am alone. Most if not all the people I know want to do the right thing when it comes to the environment. But when you consider that we are all tied to an economy that is based on consuming resources, it is hard to believe that anything that we can do as individuals can make a difference. The reality is however, that we as individual people are who ware going to make the difference. While the changes that are happening to the environment are happening on a massive scale, most of them are happening as a result of individual choices. Choices like paper or plastic, do I drive or take the train, turn the computer off or leave it on, turn the heat up or wear a sweater. We are tied to an economic system that requires that we generate pollution. I realize that we cannot ask everyone to adopt an 19th Century lifestyle, but there are plenty of meaningful things that we can all do to shrink our environmental footprint. Collectively, these actions will be meaningful. That is why we created Low Carbon Home. Please subscribe to this site. At most you will get one email a week and we promise that it will be useful information. You will get reliable information that will support you in significantly shrinking your personal carbon footprint and do your part to leave our children a healthy and sustainable world. This site is open to everyone to contribute to. If you have a story or an article or request, please let us know. Thank you,
