Dogmatic Atheism ...
Dogmatic Atheism PieceIsn't atheism great? The answer is yes.If you don't believe in a god who created the universe, there's a tantalising, fascinating mystery to everything. How did the universe come into being? Why is it like it is, with galaxies and planets and people? Why is the speed of light 186,000 miles per second and not 187,000 miles per second?Science (lovely, lovely science) can answer some of these questions. Maybe one day it will answer them all. There's an infinitude of possibilities, a myriad explanations, for why and how the universe exists as it does. It's maybe the case that the more we find out, the m
Do you have an in...
Do you have an injured or badly-off goldfish?Perhaps you have a guppy who has lost his or her mind through the boredom of a dull bowl or aquarium.Maybe your pet fish is a risk-taker and has come a cropper, maybe losing an eye or a fin, or maybe something even more serious than that, which is serious enough in the first place. These images from the Ailing Goldfish Sanctuary will be comforting. You can send your malformed or weak-minded goldfish to this peaceful retreat and have them looked after when you can no longer be bothered. On these autumnal...
On these autumnal quasi-wintry evenings, it behooves one to drink nice warm drinks. In this way, you can increase your body temperature in a pleasing and tasty way. I did this today. I had some Cadbury Bournville Cocoa. The instructions on the pot state you should use warm milk to make it.However, I had some single cream left over from the weekend (as is my wont), but frustratingly, not enough to make a cup of pure cream hot chocolate, which is what my decadent nature demanded. I also had some skimmed milk left. In a stroke of culinary genius, I mixed the cream with the skimmed milk, making what I firmly believe is semi-skimmed milk. As anyone can tell you, single cream plus ski
I put my underpan...
I put my underpants on the wrong way round today. This should be the kind of thing that other people do, but not me. It's almost as if I have become a forgetful old man, donning my underattire in a sloppy manner.I'll be doing other cliched mistakes soon, like slipping on a banana skin or getting my foot stuck in a bucket.I only noticed my state of pantus reversus this afternoon. Which must mean it's not that serious a problem. I wasn't suffering undue discomfort. So this minimises the severity of the mistake in my book, and highlights the versatility of one's pants.
When drying mysel...
When drying myself after a shower, I always find gravity a great help. It pulls the water down and makes it drip onto the floor, and in this way, I become dry.The rate at which the water falls is not, however, very rapid. The gravitation of the Earth attracts objects towards itself at a speed of 9.8 metres per second per second. That is, for every second that passes, the speed of the falling object increases by 9.8 metres per second (ignoring wind resistance). Therefore, after two seconds, it would be falling at 19.6 metres per second. After three, 29.4. Eventually, terminal velocity would be reached, where an object can't fall any faster because the force of gravity is matched
