As a group of young Mets fans that grew up in the 80s and 90s, we have decided to put Mets information as it has never been seen before on the web. Mets blogs are all over the Internet, and we are a fan of most of them. We are hoping that Metsopolis is a blog that is read in addition to your other information sites. Created in early 2009, its focus is to provide a running log of each and every game. Primarily, it will provide an avenue for fans and Metsopolis’s contributors to converse over the smallest details of not only the game, but the telecast. Did anyone else see what that Jose Reyes just did? What was it that Keith just said? I missed the Aflac Trivia answer, I wonder what it was. All this information and more can be found here, at Metsopolis.com. |

Carlos Delgado and Other First Base Options
The big free agents Mets fans have been clamoring for have been Matt Holliday and John Lackey. A big gap exists at first base as Carlos Delgado is a free agent. Omar Minaya and Jeff Wilpon must make a very important decision on whether to re-sign the 38-year-old slugger, stick with Daniel Murphy, or acquire another talent.
Delgado went down last May with a bone spur and a torn labrum in his hip, similar injuries Alex Rodriguez and Chase Utley had recently. Clearly those two are not only younger but in better shape than Carlos. If he is fully recovered, it will be a tough decision on whether to re-sign him.
With the amount of injuries the fans have endured in 2009, the last
If I Were Ruben Amaro…
I would be able to bury the Mets this off-season. The Phillies have the talent to go out and trade for Roy Halladay, giving them the best 1-2 combo in the Majors. Then I would go out and replace Pedro Feliz with Chone Figgins, who could bat leadoff for the Phils. Rollins could be sent down in the lineup to give the Phillies something like this:
Figgins
Victorino
Utley
Werth
Howard
Rollins
Ibanez
Ruiz
It doesn’t really matter how their lineup is constructed, but check out the depth in it…it is ridiculous. With many of their players in the primes of their careers (Utley, Howard, R
Brett Myers: Worth a Look?
Thanks to Metsblog, I saw that the Philles are not going to re-sign RHP Brett Myers this winter. Is he a pitcher that the Mets should consider signing for their rotation in 2010? Maybe, and here’s why.
What do we know about Brett Myers (besides the incident with his wife)? He’s right handed, he throws hard, he has a nasty curveball, he can work out of the bullpen, and he has a fearless attitude. He’s also coming off an injury plagued season and is one of those low risk-high reward signings that Omar should look into.
Baseball Needs a Change
After watching the World Series, it is clear in my mind: The rules of baseball need a change. The American League has a built in advantage in every series it plays against the National League because of the designated hitter. However, I don’t see a situation anytime soon where the Senior Circuit adopts the DH or where its Junior counterpart axes it.
If an NL team plays in an AL park, they must use the DH. What does this mean? What usually happens is the manager will put their best bench player in the DH spot and he would typically bat near the bottom of the order. If he isn’t good enough to start, he probably isn’t good enough to hit higher than 5 th or 6th. The
2010 Outlook: Who Needs to Step Up
Every Met fan has their own idea and opinion on what General Manager Omar Minaya should do this off-season in terms of acquiring talent. While some scenarios are great and some creative, it is important to remember that the real key to the off-season will be the development of a handful of players. Here are five Mets that will need to step up their game in 2010 if they want to even think about making the playoffs.
1. Oliver Perez
The enigmatic left-hander can baffle other teams one inning and then blow up the next. The two keys to Perez are conditioning (he was out of shape last Spring) and consistency. Apparently, Perez has claimed that he is moving (or al
