Be Thankful for Canadian Health Care
A battle is raging in the United States over universal health care which Canadians take for granted. The country is divided and people are very angry in the USA on both sides of the issue. There is clearly a strong insurance lobby out there trying to stop anything resembling "a public option". They are fearful that if there is a public option almost everybody would select it and the insurers would lose most of their business or perhaps worse have to compete with the quality of care and the price of the public option. In the United States now most people have private health care which is inadequate and President Obama's plan is to force the insurers to improve in how they provide service
I'll Be Back
Things have gotten extremely busy with my law practice so I have not had time to update the blog. I have been in court almost every day for the past two weeks and have major proceedings ahead of me for a little while. The blog will be updated with a new post before too long.
NDP to Vote Confidence in Harper
That is a slightly misleading headline, but yes Jack Layton's NEW Democratic Party will vote confidence in the Government while at the same time denouncing it and saying that they have no confidence in the Harper Government. Now Jack Layton is learning how Stephane Dion felt when he did the same in a feeble attempt to avoid an election last time. Michael Ignatieff is pushing fo

This could have triggered an election but it was an election nobody wanted. Both the "separatists and the socialists" supported the Harper Government to stop a no confidence vote that would trigger an election. Both the NDP and the Bloc knew that an election would not be in their party's interest and were forced to do the unthinkable and vote with the Government. The job of the Opposition is to oppose and we are now in that situation where the Opposition Leader and his Party are opposing instead of propping up the Government. The Harper Govern
Renewal for Canada?
We end the summer refreshed from a Labour Day weekend and energized for the Fall. Canada has survived a world wide recession and seems to be on track for recovery. The question we are now asked is: "is that good enough?" Do Canadians "deserve better"? This is the challenge from Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff as he threatens to upset the apple cart of the Harper Government. We have had dull, practical, stable government for the duration of the Harper Minority. Now it is suggested that "we can do better". Certainly we can do better and we have done better in the past, but are Canadians up for the challenge now? Does Michael Ignatieff inspire us to go further and achieve more and
