after reading Amos for class…
I’m wondering why the church doesn’t talk more about Amos 8:6, “buying the poor for silver and the needy for a pair of sandals, and selling the sweepings of the wheat.” Seems that if we are to get literal with the Bible, we would do well to preach more explicitly in favor of fair trade, against consumerism that favors a “good deal” over justice, and the quality and quantity of food available to the poor in our world. *I’m first in line for the confessional booth.*
