The Bridge of Lions
One of the pair of lions guarding the Bridge of Lions in St. Augustine, Florida. This magnificent beast is one of a pair of marble lions normally found guarding the Bridge of Lions which crosses Matanzas Bay in St. Augustine, Florida. Right now both lions are resting in a warehouse while the bridge is being rehabbed and restored to its original beauty. The postcard below shows what the bridge looked like right after its completion in April 1927.
Virtual Archaeology Fieldtrips
The Florida Public Archaeology Network has kicked off a project to create virtual tours of historic site excavation projects throughout Florida. One of the first is this presentation on the Ximenez-Fatio house here in St. Augustine. According to their notes, this is probably “the most excavated house in Florida”. Also available is a tour of Kingsley Plantation on Amelia Island.
