Description: When I think of my best friend I think of that Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrel Song, "Aint No Mountain High Enough." The following lyrics convey for me the strength of my best friend, The Lioness: "If you need me, call me No matter where you are No matter how far Just call my name I'll be there in a hurry You don't have to worry 'Cause baby, There ain't no mountain high enough Ain't no valley low enough Ain't no river wide enough To keep me from getting to you Remember the day I set you free I told you You could always count on me From that day on I made a vow I'll be there when you want me Some way, some how." From the first moment I met this cat, she was filled with expressions of not just "don't mess with me," but "don't mess with any of the unerdogs in this world. I want to say I met her on equal footing, but that would be a misnomer, at best. I met her att a time in my life when I was weak and scared of the world. I was a freshman at University of Coloraado's Denver Campus and I was terrified. The Lioness walked gracefully, had me follow suit. The Lioness showed how to to convey intelligence even if mybe we didn't understand an entire text. The Lioness showed me how to study. She would have me to her home and there we would write papers and practice blocking out theatre pieces to be presented. She was full of self confidence. I could tell her anything; anything. She would have me laughing for hours at a time and the jokes wre all based on funny self deprecating behavior that we knew we took too seriously. Oh, and how beautiful she was. She had the most beautiful blue eyes and blond hair. She dressed impeccably and she had the most beautiful hands. She was gorgeous. The odd thing was that I was never jealou os her, but merely taken by her. I wanted to emulate her, but in my own way, and so she taught me. She taaught me how to dress, how to wear certain hair styles, how to hold myself with grace and presence, how to know that there was "aint no mountain high enought," to slow me down. When she said, "If you need me," She really meant "call me," regardless of the time of day or night. If I was lost wandering the streets drunk or high or in another form of insanity, she meant it when she said, "No matter where you are No matter how farJust call my nameI'll be there in a hurry You don't have to worry." She was, she is, worth her weight in gold. She has seen me in the saddest and sordid of places, but she never stopped loving me and helping me. She is a true Lioness, true not just to her best friend, but her pride. If we could all be so lucky to have a Brooke in our lives.
