Mystic Waters Supports Cold, Clean Fishable Water
Take Action Protect our Water… Protect our Fishing The Clean Water Act is under attack. I support clean fishable water and clean fishable water supports me and my family. Tell your member of Congress that headwaters matter to people who actually live near and fish on our nation’s rivers and that th

Fishing the Kenai River Canyon in March
Today’s Kenai River fishing report submitted by my guide friend Steve Paulding. Usually by late March, you can find a few fish in cold but flowing water on the Upper Kenai River. Not this year. Meanwhile, Stacy is down in Baja spending several months running down the Rooster. Here is his latest co

This is the first part in a series of posts I’m going to run about what to expect if you come fishing in my part of Alaska. June is several pages deep in the calendar, but I’m already feeling the pull. The smell of new growth over last years decay. The chorus and energy of [...]

Alaska Felt Sole Ban
If you are planning to fish in Alaska waters this coming season, be sure to wear boots with rubber soles. Solstice Salmon
Mid Summer Sockeye fishing can get a little crazy on the Kenai and Russian Rivers. Especially at the confluence. Drifting the Kenai River provides access to more open waters and that is our method of attack. Here is an article I submitted to Kype Magazine about the madness of Solstice Salmon (pg 12

Salmon Will To Survive

Fish Heads
The bears are slurping up salmon already thick with their winter coats. On the banks there are a few lonely fish heads. The water is down to 3200 cfs and looks like the Kenai again with greenish silty color. You can still pull some fish, even some really special ones, but you will have to work [...

Up and Down and Great
The water was up to 12,800cfs, the water got down to 6,800cfs and is now moving back up beyond 8,500cfs. Today the rain was lashing the coast, the wind was howling along the inlet, there was snow falling on the peaks, and it was 50 degrees and very fishy on the Kenai River. What else [...]
