Opposite Day
My sister and I used to play opposite day on Wednesdays as kids. I thought about that this morning as I was listening to a screaming baby and an even louder 4-year-old asking me why for 15 straight minutes. Close to feeling burned out at work and thoughts of how messy I left my house this morning set up the tone for a bad mood kind of day. By the time I walked into my office I was already thinking about all the people I didn’t feel like dealing with today. That’s when it clicked, just make it opposite day.
For the rest of the day I am going to do the exact opposite of what my first instinct is. Let’s see how it goes…updates via twitter
Credits for Weatherizing Your Home
Homeowners making certain home improvements this fall can cut their winter heating bills and lower their tax bill by claiming one or both of the following income tax credits: (1) the nonbusiness energy property credit, which equals 30% of the cost of eligible energy-saving improvements, up to a maximum tax credit of $1,500 for the combined 2009 and 2010 tax years; and (2) the residential energy-efficient property credit, which equals 30% of what a homeowner spends on qualifying property such as solar electric systems, solar hot water heaters, geothermal heat pumps, wind turbines, and fuel cell property. Since some energy-efficient improvements do not qualify for a tax credit,
Quick and Easy – That’s How I Like It (recipes that is)
If you are like me, you get home from work scrounge around the kitchen trying to find something healthy and quick enough to feed the family. I would get calls on my way home from work from my grumpy husband ( the hungrier the grumpier) asking what was for dinner. So my happy medium (because that is what the life of a wife, mother and worker generally comes down to) the crockpot.
I am not afraid to admit it – I am in love with my crockpot. This morning I threw some pork chops, a can of cream of chicken soup, uncooked rice and frozen veggies in and turned it on low. Di
Happy and Safe Halloween
Halloween is an exciting time for kids, but is a scary time for parents. Thinking about all the potential hazards that can happen on Halloween night is nerve wrecking. The second you give birth to your child, this floodgate opens in your mind allowing all the terrible “what if” thoughts to flow. Several times throughout the week I will lay in bed thinking about what I should do first i
Get the quality of high end beauty for 1/3 the price
I could spend a whole paycheck at Sephora, but since I have kids and bills that is not a possibility.
Last Christmas I received Sephora’s top sellers beauty pack and in a little bottle called Payoff. Basically it is a liquid dropper that you can put in your eyeshadow to either intensify it or make it into an eyeliner you can apply with a liner brush. I fell in love with the product, but not the price. After some research I found that using a drop of saline solution works exactly the same way for a fraction of the cost.
Try it out and let me know what you think or if you have any other quick beauty tips that save money.
