A very natural confusion settles down among students (who do not understand what their professor means) and amongst vocal tutors (who do not use the same vocabulary). The reason is essentially due to the complexity of vocal mechanisms. Solid notions in anatomy and in vocal physiology are indispensable to understand and teach singing. We would like to enumerate and attempt to define here the most common terms.
