Judging a book by its cover…

For the past half an hour I have been sitting here browsing through the Advanced Reading Copies (ARCs) And I suddenly noticed something that I was doing without even realising it. I was refusing to look at books whose covers didn’t catch my eye. Now, I don’t think I am necessarily judging a book by

Back on the wagon

Yes, you all read that correctly. I am officially back on the writing wagon – that same wagon I have been trying to climb back on for the past two months. However – introducing my new daughter to the world was a much more important job. But now that she is ‘sleeping like a baby’, [...]

Lucky seven…

Something different happened today in my blogging world. I was tagged in a Lucky Seven post by Melissa Pearl. This is a blogging game for authors that I have never heard of before, but one that I’m delighted to play. The rules are that you must post an excerpt from one of your books and this excerpt

In memory…

A good friend of mine wrote a lovely post – Lest We Forget in honour of Anzac day and her grandfather, and I thought that I would too. This is in memory of my grandfather, Sir Andrew McKee – a determined man who fought hard, and lived hard. While I will always miss you – I [...]

Having a little faith…

Something is once again stirring within me. I would like to say that it’s the ‘writing bug’… but it feels as though it’s more than that. Introducing… the new addition

Everyone at Parchment Place is once again celebrating…  the long anticipated arrival of Bumpkin, who has officially been renamed Abigail  - or just Abby for short. I have no doubt in my mind that Abby’s journey into the world was much like everyone’s on this earth. She just followed the light, and h

The Importance of Support

I am very lucky to have some amazing people around me in my world. I’m not just talking about my writing world, but I am also talking about the friendships that I have developed over the years. There is something rather reassuring to know that you can bounce ideas off the people around you, and [...

The Seven Deadly Sins of Prologues

Reblogged from Kristen Lamb's Blog: To prologue or not to prologue? That is the question. The problem with the prologue is it has kind of gotten a bad rap over the years, especially with agents. They generally hate them. Why? In my opinion, it is because far too many writers don’t use prologues prop

How many drafts is really enough?

How long is a piece of string? I look at my manuscript, The Mediterranean Source, with a bit of uncertainty at the moment. A book that has been years in the making, and just recently, has had some pretty serious rewriting done on it. Admittedly, the rewriting has made it a lot stronger… but it [...]
