Wet Dog Rain
I visited a middle school in East Texas today to talk to kids about my books, and the wonderful librarian, Deann, took me to lunch to the best place in the county, a restaurant called Ranchhands with sweetened tea and fried pickles on the menu. I ordered the fried catfish, which was delicious. On our drive to the restaurant, we passed horses grazing in the fields and twice a loose dog raced across the street. I told her that in Houston, I didn’t see many dogs not on leashes any more. She confirmed in her town, dogs still ran free.
