Twilight: New Moon Review (Maybe the only positive one on the internet!)
I saw New Moon last night because, well, I love ridiculous pop culture phenomenons and movies that make so much money despite terrible reviews and bad writing that I had to go. (Also I read all the books so I felt obligated.) I am not really going to review this movie because if you read the books, you’ve seen the movie. If you didn’t, you won’t ever see it unless your girlfriend makes you go or its on T.V. in a few years. But since I wrote about the first one, I figu
What Makes Me Excited About Photography? - Example: Sarah Caron Photograph
Sarah Caron - Time Magazine, November 9, 2009
Let’s face it, photography and art in general is becoming more saturated and less interesting everyday. I accepted it a long time ago, but while working or talking to people when I make pictures, I still get in very frequent conversations about why I take photographs, and what makes pictures interesting for me. Usually, it is never a photograph, but rather a series of photographs that does something, plays off other images, makes strong art historical references, ect. But once and a while I come across an ima
Dear Craigslist Photo Army, I
It is not very often that I get behind any kind of serious stance against something. Maybe I have the inability to feel that change can happen in 2009, but it is in these small instances that I can hop on board and feel like protesting might help in the long term.
For those of you (and me) who use craigslist to generate work from time to time, there has been a small army of folks going on every day and both flagging, and re: Posting to jobs that are “internships” or “portfolio builders”. Let me explain a little more for those who are not frequent craigslist users. There are a few sections on craigslist
Alec Soth Talk At Mass Art - AND, Why he killed the blog!
Last night Mr. Soth came to talk at Mass Art. I met Alec Soth, and for the first time in a while, I was not disappointed by an artist’s talk.
The setting was a little odd for an artist talk. They shoved about 200-300 people in a room with a projector and 50 chairs. I sat about 4 feet from the screen at the front of the room while he spoke for two hours, so I got a good look at the man behind the beard. I am more or less going to give a short play by play of what he showed, and then a f
Why do we Photograph?
Tonight while driving up to northern New Hampshire to shoot a video for a project my girlfriend is working on, we got lost. Usually this upsets me; I like to be concise and never go off the beaten path unless I have to go to the bathroom or get gas. But this time was different for a few reasons.
First off, we were driving through New Hampshire while the sun was setting, which was lovely. Second, I am doing a project about New Hampshire, so any aimless driving can only help me find new things to photograph, or inform my ever growing idea of what New Hampshire can be. And last, I came upon something that I needed to photograph. And better than that; I actually brought my camera for
