37th U.A.E. National Day
I was invited by a researcher (uhm, who's now my fiance) of U.A.E. University's Interactive Robots and Media Laboratory to their 37th National Day Celebration, December 2008. Since it's an Islamic university, the male and female students have separate classrooms, though housed in the same I.T. building. There were speeches delivered by professors and special guests, and films shown made by the students. But the highlight of the show, like in any other U.A.E. celebration, is the singing and dancing. This was the 80s, perhaps the time when tourism in Boracay was just picking up. He can also recall generators being used to power the up whole island.Fast-forward two decades... Papa, you should see them laser lights! I bet those generators won't be able to support that. I was saddened with what Boracay has become. I wonder how long will the 'tropical paradise' last. Sigh. Oh well, that's just me.
Kwebang Lampas
Taken from my Multiply blog, written September 8, 2008:Armed with P1,500 each, the five of us (Jules, Oliver, Tristan, Erwin and I) met up at Wendy's Buendia about quarter to one. The original 3am meeting based on the itinerary was changed to 12 noon since Oliver will be getting off work a
