According to Pub Rants, it looks like the Romance Writers of America just booted Harlequin from their national conference. Ouch! This is because Harlequin is now going to start offering a subsidy imprint, or vanity publishing. Bestselling author Lynn Viehl posted her royalty statement, and it's not pretty. Joe Konrath let everyone know how much he was making a few months ago, and it looks like other authors are now spilling the beans and following suit. The difference is that Konrath is now self-publishing on multiple platforms (Kindle, IPhone, Smashwords, ect) and Lynn is still published traditionally.Lynn's advance was $50,000, which didn't "earn out" this year, because of bookstore returns, which were (amazingly) 1/3 of the books ordered.
