It’s my birthday…
… and I’ll cry if I want to. Well, actually, that’s not true on either front.  It was my birthday yesterday and thankfully, there were no tears involved! I find though that your birthday is an excellent time to take stock of the past year in a positive light.  New Year’s Resolutions are all about looking forward to the new things you want to do.  Your birthday is a great opportunity to look back over the last year and note all the things that you’ve achieved.  I used to get quite depressed on my birthday because it felt like another year had passed by and I hadn’t made any different to my life, let alone anyone else’s.  But by
Fitting it all in…
There are usually certain immovable deadlines in your life.  Points that break up the day definitely.  Things like the school run, activities, work – you can’t change when you do these things so everything else just has to fit in around it. Knowing what needs to be done If you don’t know it needs doing, how will you do it?  Everything that you want to achieve should be written down, whether it’s something minor like ‘load the dishwasher’ or something major like ‘retrain as an English teacher’.  The bigger aims can be broken down into smaller ones but once it’s written down, that’s it.  It’s alive and i
Need to remember something? Write it down!
Case in point.  A little conversation I had yesterday. Picture the scene.  I’m in my living room, playing with the children.  The phone rings. ‘Hello?’ ‘Freya?’ ‘Hi Grandma.’ ‘Where are you?’ Silence.  If I’d been a cartoon character you’d have been able to see the cogs in my brain whirring.  Very quickly. ‘Oh faff!  I’ve forgotten again, haven’t I?’ Twice in the space of six weeks now I’ve forgotten that I’ve arranged to my Grandma’s for lunch.  That’s on top of getting in a muddle about what night my choir is pe
Review: Daily Home Planner
The Daily Home Planner is a US product, either desktop or web-based software that promises to ‘get your family organized!’  Does it live up to its own hype? What’s it about? At it’s heart, the planner is a exactly that, a planner for your whole family.  You can add users and assign them a colour so that you can add events and dates for all the family, including children.  In addition it also offers meal planning, budgeting, personal goals, contacts and tasks.  The desktop version costs $24.95 and obviously you can only access the information from the desktop it is installed on.  Th
Raising awareness for premature babies
It’s a post not strictly about organisation today, but I just wanted to take the time on Fight for Preemies day to try and raise a bit of awareness for premature babies. What is a premature birth? Premature births can be anything before 37 weeks.  A normal gestation is viewed as something between 38-42 weeks and most babies should be born within this time frame.  However every year approximately 7% of babies, that’s nearly one in ten, is born prematurely.  The range of care needed for these babies can vary massively – a 36 week old baby might need little or no assistance, whereas a baby born at 22 weeks will need constant care and round the clock atte
