Toyota announced yesterday that it is recalling MY 2000-2003 Tundra pickups in cold-climate areas due to potentially excessive corrosion on the rear cross-member assembly. Two adverse consequences could result from this corrosion: (1) the spare tire, which is mounted to the assembly, could fall off and create a hazard for nearby vehicles; and (2) the rear brake line could become compromised, causing the rear brake circuits to fail. Toyota has announced the steps it will take to resolve safety issues caused when the accelerator pedal in its cars becomes stuck under misaligned floor mats.
