| Description: | Dear Senator Burr: As a retired (and disabled) veteran of the US Army, and a victim of the woefully inadequate care available at the Salisbury VA Medical Center, I was more than a little disheartened to hear that you are “holding up” the appoint of Major Tammy Duckworth’s appointment to the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. To say that you are “doing your due diligence ... to ensure that veterans have the best representation possible” is not simply a slap in the face of every American veteran, its pure BULLSHIT! Major Duckworth is an heroic soldier, a person with a unique sense of what disabled veterans face in every day life, and is supremely qualified to take on the task of reinventing the DVA into an agency that truly serves this country’s wounded warriors. Her experiences both on active duty and with the Illinois State Veterans’ Department places her above all others in knowing what needs to be done on behalf of this nation’s veterans. What possible “due diligence” needs to be done? Her qualifications go well beyond your 17 years as a lawn mower salesman. Her dedication to the service of her country far surpasses your self-serving interests. And I suggest, sir, that your delaying tactics are simply an ill-conceived ploy for some form of personal recognition. Rather than deny the nation’s veterans an honest, caring, and understanding ombudsman in the center of the government, why not do something constructive with your time – like serving your constituents instead of your misguided party’s obstructionist tactics?
