Naperville Turkey Trot: Not So Bad!
I came, I saw, I turkey-trotted.I carb-loaded last night, even though, let's be honest, you don't really need to carb-load for a 5K. Not when you average an 8 minute mile for a 5K anyway. But I did and I do believe it helped. My cousin's fiancé was going to run it this year with us, so he made a delicious pasta meal with chicken. And I had two glasses of wine. That helped, too.So this morning, I woke up at 5 AM, stared down the snow, and got ready to run. I was going to be sporting my tights for the first time this season! It feels good to be wearing pants again. My legs look sooooooooo much better, let me just say. And I was going to wea
A Cautious Step Forward
I know you've all been waiting to hear how my first foray back into running post-IT band revelation went.It went.I didn't want to tax myself, or screw myself for the Turkey Trot, so I committed to running no more than 3.1 miles. Slowly. And to save you the drama, it went pretty well. My right knee/leg was pretty stiff, but I managed to make it through. I made sure to walk for a bit once I hit 3.25 miles.Later on in the day, my knee felt crappy again, but only for a little bit. I'm going to try and run on the 'mill tonight for a little bit, because clearly I love torturing myself. This of course will
Foam Rollers: Hurts So Good
First, I'm changing up the layout of my blog, so much as I can with the templates and whatnot made available to me à la Blogger. I'm a technological idiot, so unless I can fit it within those confines, it ain't happen'. It'd be great to make the picture in my title fill the entire space, or put another picture with it too. Probably won't happen, so just get used to that big, pink space. I'm also updating lots of things. Anyway, I've been dating my foam roller and green, circular stretchy band for three days now. It has become a pain-pleasure thing. My physical therapist assured me that there's no way I can hurt myself using the foam roller. Unless I try to eat it.
Mea Culpa
Hi. Yes, I'm still here. It has just been one of those (two) weeks. In bullet form:- Massive, stress-inducing car problems- Family in town. Inducing more stress- Wedding in Florida- Where'd my money go?- Insanity at work- Knee problemsThe last point is something I'll have to go into in more depth later, but for now, let me just say that on Tuesday, November 3rd, it hurt so badly that I was forced to limp. I tried to run again on the sandy beaches of Amelia Island the following weekend, and had to stop less than 2 minutes into the run. Bad news bears, right? I was finally able to go to
NYC Marathon...maybe next year?
Good luck to anyone supporting, running, volunteering, jumping in, etc., the New York City Marathon on Sunday. I'm thinking about entering the lottery for it next year, even though that's not a guarantee. I'd sign up to be a charity runner, but I don't know how much I'd be able to secure in donations. If you happen to see Ed Norton, please tell him that I love him.
