What is Gospel Centered Counseling? Part 3
Let's begin to understand our friend who is struggling with his boss and wife through gospel eyes. The first step is to recognize that all men are worshipers. We can see this in Romans, Chapter One:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, the
What is Gospel Centered Counseling? Part 2
In my first installment about what gospel-centered counseling is I laid out the basics of what nouthetic counseling since it is an unusual term that is used to distinguish one kind of counseling from another. The Alternative Health Dictionary entry on Nouthetic (Biblical)Counseling said this:...use of devotional instructions in the Bible to treat psychological problems. I thought I would expand on the topic a bit seeing as I will be preaching on the topic over the next two weeks at Missio Dei in Kenosha, Wisconsin.I was recently in a situation where I was supposed to explain to people what a nouthetic counselor was. Here's an example definition from the Alternative Health Dictionary entry on Biblical Counseling

But what is a gospel-centered life? I think we Christians get confused about the gospel. We know that the gospel is the good news by which we are saved, but then we think we can move beyond the gospel. But the truth is, the gospel that saves us is the same gospel that will cause us to grow in
The Consequences of Spiritual Blindness
In the TV show Home Improvement Tim Taylor and his wife Jill would get into disagreements. After the usual back and forth humerous dialogue Tim would struggle to take responsibility for being wrong. It would come out like this; “I was wroooooooong” as if he was choking on the words. My wife and I just celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary. You can learn a lot in that amount of time and one thing we've learned is that we can be wrong. Not only can we be wrong, we frequently are wrong! Especially me.For the Christian, the Cross ought to demolish pride. If we think and act as if we are never wrong we need only to gaze upon the Cross where hangs our Savior
