I believe we're all connected. We may not physically know one another, but how can we be strangers when we're all sharing in one collective human experience?
My writing is a conscious effort to illustrate this. I am passionate about documenting life in an effort to bridge the gaps between us, expose our innumerable similarities, and increase empathy for, and acceptance of, one another.
Recently I wrote about a difficult period I went through and a reader emailed to say she endured a similar experience and my article made her feel less alone. She commented, "I like what you write because it rings so true. Whether it's about a make-up product, your experiences in New York or college rush, I relate. Kindred Spirits? Perhaps."
Not perhaps. Definitely.
United through our stories, we are all Familiar Strangers. |

Workout Tips – How I Stay in Shape
Disclaimer: These are my own personal tricks. Every body is different, and what works for me may or may not work for you. Also, I’m not a physician, nutritionist, dietitian or trained fitness professional, and so if you are looking for expert advice, please seek the guidance of a health, fitness, or medical professional. Some of you have recently sent me emails and left comments inquiring about any fitness/workout tips I may have. Obviously fitness is a huge part of my life, and I’d love to share all the ways in which I attempt to stay in shape with you. Here we go…Cut out SodaI cut out soda a few years ago, even though I was add
Camera Ready
I’m a pretty low maintenance girl. I don’t spend hours on my makeup, I don’t particularly enjoy shopping, and unless I’m going out or trying to impress, I’m more of a wash-and-go kind girl (meaning my hair is most often a curly, tangled mess). But yesterday, I felt like a real girl. I had my makeup professionally done, my hair perfectly brushed, and I was primped and fussed over the way models are before a photo shoot.A while back I mentioned my desire to get into fitness modeling, and yesterday I spent the day at a very talented photographer’s studio getting my photos taken so I can create a book. This wasn’t my VERY first shoot. When I was a kid, I
What's Your "Thing"?
When I lived in New York, my “thing” was that I was nice. I mean, really nice. Midwestern nice. That means that I smiled at everyone—everyone!—I passed on the street, I held doors for people, I engaged strangers on the subway and in the elevator in conversation (yes, I was THAT weird girl…), and I generally just made it my mission to make friends wherever I went. To put it plainly, I stood out. I was the sickeningly sweet and polite girl in a sea of aggressive pushers and shovers. Even when my amiability got me into trouble, which it did
In the Aftermath
Navigating the aftermath of a break-up is difficult. Especially when the person you are broken up with is someone you dated for a while – lived with, even – and was there for you through some of your life’s biggest downs. For a while, I felt that maybe that was reason enough to stay. Because he’d been there for me and supported me through some very rough times. But what I began to realize is that relationships aren’t just about being there for one another during rough patches. They are also about the day to day. The little things. Being available to the other. At times putting the other person’s needs firs
